One day I decided I wanted to learn to play the piano so I went out and bought a midi keyboard (a M-Audio Keystation 49e), a handful of piano for beginners books and a sustain pedal. A year on and I can proudly say I can't play a thing, the reason being that learning to play the piano (for me anyway) is in reality very boring and time consuming. I've always just wanted the ability to play songs I like and not really intersted in the science of piano playing. Instead of leaving my keyboard in the corner gathering dust I gave it another go, this time I looked around to find some software to make things a bit easier for me. I stumbled across a site called Synthesia, Piano for Everyone where you can download a program that makes piano playing and learning a lot more fun.

Synthesia The Great thing about the Synthesia program is that you can look on the web for the midi file of any song you want to learn and the program visually shows you what keys you should press and when to press them. There's no complicated music sheets, or piano lingo to put up with. I've been using this program for a few hours now and manged to play the first part of the song Trouble by Coldplay, for me this is a great acheivement as I'm pretty much rhythmically inept when it comes to things like this. So if like me you find learning to play the piano a little too tedious then this program is a must, download it and try it yourself.
